The Little Theatre of Alexandria

Founded in 1934, the Little Theatre of Alexandria began as a small play-reading group in Old Town Alexandria.  Early productions were held upstairs at Gadsby’s Tavern in Alexandria and recreated life in the eighteenth century, right down to the visit of President and Mrs. Washington journeying from their Mount Vernon home. Since 1934, the theatre has mounted over 300 productions!

Today, LTA is the oldest award-winning theater in the Washington metro area and one of only a few community theaters in the country with its own building and an ambitious 7-show season. Nominated for 19 WATCH awards (Washington Area Theatre Community Honors) this year, LTA is proud to be celebrating their 75th successful season starting this summer.  To kick off our 75th season, we will be performing one of the theatre’s classic productions, the musical, 1776!
