Today you will be learning a little about the Revolutionary and Civil Wars. Abingdon is home to The Muster Grounds, the location where volunteer militia mustered September 24, 1780, before marching over the Appalachia Mountain to Kings Mountain, SC to turn the tides of the Revolutionary War. A magnificent exhibit will show you what life was like in those days for the troops and their families. Step back in time to the 19th century Virginia at 1860 Fields-Penn House Museum, a restored home of two of Abingdon's prominent families. The house museum features period room settings, William King's collection of regional decorative arts and pottery, a textile room, children's bedroom, and kitchen garden.
