Fall Frenzy in Lynchburg
Make Lynchburg your fall headquarters! Enjoy the fun, food and frivolity of the fall festival season in Central Virginia. Bring your sweetie, bring the whole family, but don’t forget your camera! Day 1: After checking into your hotel, head for the Visitor Information Center and pick up a copy of the Historic Districts walking tour brochure. Treat yourself to an unforgettable stroll through Diamond Hill or Garland Hill historic district. The breathtaking architecture is fabulous any time of year, but unparalleled in the fall. Savor a relaxed dinner at downtown restaurant and take in an evening of jazz at one of the local nightspots before retiring for the evening. Day 2: Put on your walking shoes, grab your camera and head out for a day jam-packed with festival fun. Visit during the Day at the Point festival at Point of Honor. Enjoy living history, food children’s games and crafts, period music, craft demonstrations, a bateau exhibit and much more. Also plan to tour the area while the Harvest Festival at Booker T. Washington National Monument is in full swing. Here you will find blacksmithing, wool spinning, kitchen hearth cooking, quilting, apple-butter making, and more. Return to Lynchburg in time to top off your evening with a fine meal at Main Street Eatery in downtown Lynchburg before retiring for the night. Oh, and don’t forget to rub those feet. . .there’s more tomorrow! Day 3: Enjoy another gracious breakfast with your hosts before a final day full of wine tasting garlic eating, craft shopping, apple sampling, cider drinking, animal petting and more. Head out to either the Wine and Garlic Festival at Rebec Vineyards or the Peak Foliage Open House at Peaks of Otter Winery, both in the Fall. if you dare. Return to Lynchburg for a late afternoon take in sunset on the James River Heritage Trail to stretch your muscles before the drive home. Now that you’ve “discovered Lynchburg” in the fall, you’ll be back each season!
