A Day of Civil War Life in Historic New Market
For the Morning: Take the New Market Civil War Walking tour and stroll the streets of the historic district of New Market with a costumed-storyteller and historian. You will hear the stories of the brave and feisty women of Congress St and how they survived the Civil War in a small town in Virginia. Tours are offered May- October on Tues.,Fri., and Sat. at 10:30 am or at other times by appointment. Can guide groups from 2- 40 persons. Depending on the selected tour, New Market Walking Tours are approximately 30-90 minutes long. Lunch is on your own at your choice of restaurants: Johnny Appleseed, Jalisco Restaurant, Southern Kitchen. For the Afternoon: Visit the Virginia Museum of the Civil War and learn the story of the VMI Cadets and their part in the Battle of New Market, May 15, 1864. Explore the Bushong farm and learn what rural life was like during the Civil War.
