George Washington & Jefferson National Forests Camping

Outdoor Recreation: Camping, Picnicking, Hunting, Fishing (400 miles of trout streams) hiking (1,100 miles of trails including 273 miles of Appalachian Trail, Horseback riding, swimming, cross country skiing and driving scenic by-ways. On 1.9 million acres of public land administered by the U.S. Forest Service.  The forest has fifteen congressionally designated wilderness areas amounting to 90,269 acres.Recreation areas range from highly developed to isolated solitude of wilderness.
