Natural Bridge- National Historic Landmark

Artists painted and illustrated it; word got out. In Colonial and Early America, The Natural Bridge became one of the most notable natural wonders on the continent.
It served as a shot tower to make ammunition for the War of 1812. It served as a road before settlers arrived. For Native Americans the 230-foot tall Natural Bridge carried them over Cedar Creek on the "Great Path"; early settlers, the "Great Wagon Road"; Civil War troops, the "racecourse of the armies"; for us today, "U.S. 11."
