Greene County Historical Society

The Greene County Historical Society Museum is located in the Old Jail next to the Courthouse in Stanardsville VA. It contains changing exhibits illustrating 8,000 years of history and pre-history in the County, which includes Swift Run Gap (access to the Skyline Drive), for millenia one of the most traveled routes for crossing the Blue Ridge Mountains to and from the Piedmont and the Shenandoah Valley. The museum also houses numerous genealogical resources, including a 110,000 name database of Greene County descendants, accessible by patrons on a public computer. The Museum is open from 10am to 3pm on Fridays and Saturdays, and by appointment, and admission is free. Membership in the Society is available to all at a moderate cost, and includes our newsletter, and notification of all programs.
