Dominion GardenFest of Lights at Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden
Dominion GardenFest of Lights: a holiday tradition featuring half-a-million lights, botanical decorations, trains, holiday dinners, family activities and more. Nov. 29, 2013 - Jan. 13, 2014; 5 - 10 p.m. (Closed Dec. 24 & 25)
This year's theme "A Natural Love Affair" celebrates all we love about the natural world. Discover larger-than-life forms of lightning bugs, bees and native flowers that illumine your path. Meander through a caterpillar tunnel of lights.
The magnificent glass Conservatory includes a 20-foot tall holiday tree dripping with ornaments featuring birds, bees and flora of all seasons. A model train display and Cottage Garden wing features scenes of woodland creatures inspired by The Wind in the Willows and Mossy.
The Children's Garden has a firepit for toasting s'mores (available for purchase), a maze and views from the CWDKid's Tree House.
Dining is available and hot chocolate and snacks can be purchased; there's also a wonderful Garden Shop.
Nightly 5-10 p.m. (except December 24 & 25) with recurring activities:
- Merry Mondays:The Garden Keeper reads stories fireside in Library; Santa sightings in the Conservatory before Dec. 25 (Mondays).
- Caroling Tuesdays: Barbershop Quartetstrolls and sings.
- Crafty Wednesdays: make a wildlife ornament to take home.
- Musical Thursdays: Acoustic music in Library.
