Arbor Day - Tree City USA Celebration
Tree City USA/Arbor Day is an annual celebration of Martinsville’s Designation as a Tree City USA community and the importance of trees to the environment and in our lives.
This year there will be two tree planting sites; the first will be at the Bassett Historical Center and the second at the Uptown Connector Trail (near Gazebo).
A Tree City USA/ Arbor Day celebration will be held Tuesday, April 22, 2014, at 11:30AM at the Bassett Historical Center and at 1:00PM at the Depot Street Comfort Station adjacent to the Uptown Trail located on Depot Street. Join the Mayor, City Council, Martinsville Tree Board, the Department of Forestry, and Gateway Streetscape Foundation for the celebration.
The celebration will include the reading of the City of Martinsville’s 2014 Arbor Day Proclamation, brief educational talk on the benefits of trees, presentation of the Tree City USA designation to the City of Martinsville by the State Forester, and the dedication of seven trees on Depot Street and the Uptown Trail.
The trees which will be planted are Memorial tree gifts.
